The Chemical Biology Fellowship at UC Davis is designed to integrate chemical and biological sciences, encouraging fellows to expand their perspectives beyond the focus of their home labs. Kayla Pakulski, a current fellow working in the Lebrilla Lab—where her research centers on biological and analytical techniques—joined the program to gain hands-on experience in organic chemistry and deepen her interdisciplinary training. Through the fellowship’s cross-lab rotation opportunity, she will work in Dr. Franz’s lab to design and synthesize small molecule probes. These probes will then be used in glycan–protein interaction studies back in the Lebrilla Lab, furthering both her research and the fellowship’s mission of fostering innovative, cross-disciplinary science.
